Why do some of my internal pages rank higher than my home page?

Usually the importance of a web site page is determined in part by how many links the Search Engines find pointing to it. If a certain page in a site has excellent content then other sites may link to it natrually without informing the site owner. This could mean that a sites internal page could outrank the home page for that search term. On page factors are also taken into account as is the sites general theme when this happens.

Many site owners do all the right things without realising that they have done so and this gives them a great ranking without their realising why.
